As part of ongoing efforts to tackle medicine shortages, pharmaceutical companies must declare each year to the ANSM (the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products) the medicines they consider to be of major therapeutic interest (MITM), based on the criteria set out in the French Public Health Code.

📅 Since 2024, the ANSM has been legally required to publish this list — the first official list was published in December 2024.

➡️ Why does it matter? Being listed as an MITM entails specific obligations for pharmaceutical companies, including:

  • maintaining strategic safety stocks;
  • reporting any risk of shortage or actual supply disruption.

This regulatory change strengthens France’s commitment to medicine availability and patient safety — our team closely monitors these developments and supports industry players in meeting their regulatory obligations.
